For most of my life I have lived in some of the suburbs that make up the city of Melbourne. This is the capital city of the state of Victoria in Australia. Melbourne is known as the garden city.
My main interest in photography has been of people and family, and so as I searched through for photos of Melbourne, I decided that is what I will show you - My Melbourne! complete with people (most often my family). I've also included pictures from other sources.

The first picture is the Shrine of Remembrance taken early morning with the city centre in the background.
Our tour of Melbourne begins in or near the CBD (Central Business District) which is the heart of the City.
The Princess Theatre is a favourite location for some of the wonderful musicals that come to Melbourne - "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera" are just two of them.
Right in the city is the Polly Woodside, a vessel that has been restored and now is a museum and is open to the public.
Melbourne is a city with many fine restaurants, catering for many different nationalities and tastes. The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant provides one with a tour of
Melbourne while dining.
This black swan is one of the birds that lives in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
In one corner of the Fitzroy Gardens
is this model Tudor Village.
Also in the Fitzroy Gardens is the Conservatory in which you will see very beautiful displays of flowers
The Horse of the Year Show is presented at the Royal Showgrounds. Unfortunately this does not draw the large crowds which can be seen at the football matches.
Flowing through the suburbs into Melbourne and then out to the docklands is the Yarra River. It is a feature of the city, has not always been clean. The Yarra River has been cleaned up and much has been done to improve parts of the city, especially around the river.
Here now are a few pictures of the Yarra.
First we are facing west towards the city centre. Alongside much of the river are bike paths.
On the left of this picture is the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Facing east.
Southbank was the destination for a Bike Club bike ride which I joined with one of my friends. This is the south side of the Yarra and it is close to one of the main routes into Melbourne. Southbank has many shops and boutiques - is a very popular spot on Sundays. Very nearby is the Arts Centre and Concert Hall, and Art Gallery (closed for a while now for renovations).
Here is another picture of the bridge you see in the Southbank picture.
The Victorian Arts Centre includes the State Theatre, Melbourne Concert Hall, Playhouse, George Fairfax Studio, The Westpac Gallery and the Performing Arts Museum. Dine at one of the restaurants, or see one of the largest stages in the world.
We now move out from the city.
Montsalvat Arts Centre is the venue for a variety of visual and performing arts. The Montsalvat National Poets Festival and Montsalvat International Jazz Festival are two activities to be experienced there.
Rippon Lea is a stately home that is open to the public. Beautiful gardens surround the house and make a lovely place to picnic.
Brighton Beach bathing boxes. These boxes are a feature of the beach front at Brighton. At times a squabble arises regarding these boxes.
Some think that they are an eyesore and so need to be removed. They remain.
Caulfield Park is a nice place to take the children for a run. Of course the water is a special attraction.
Moorabbin Airport Museum. Melbourne's very busy small aircraft airport.
Tesselaar's Tulip Farm. On Mount Dandenong are many small towns,
and market gardens. There are also many beautiful gardens, some of which are open to the public. Each year during the spring time Tesselaar's is open to the public and on display are row upon row of tulips and other bulbs.
Puffing Billy is the name given to this small gauge railway train. For many years, in the Dandenongs, this train has been making its way from Belgrave to Emerald Lake. It is a tourist attraction and throughout the year many schools take groups of young children to enjoy the experience of riding in a steam train.
In one of Melbourne's western suburbs is the Train Museum. Heavy Harry, Number H220 (if I remember correctly), is the largest engine in Australia.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to Melbourne.
